This is a very scarce beautiful example of an officer's private purchase Luger Model 1908, chambered in 9mm Para. These were made at DWM factory in paralel with the military contract Lugers as the German Imperial Army commissioned officers had to procure their own sidearms.
Very few were made starting with serial number 39000. These guns have very specific identifying features such as: no stock lug, no hold open installed, BUG proofing and a letter P (Privat) stamped inside the magazine well on the rear wall. Otherwise the gun is identical to the first issue military P08.
This particular gun has all of the above features and retains over 98% of its original blueing with just a hint of holster wear on the high points. It is all matching with a correctly unnumbered magazine. The bore is very good. The grips are excellent.
The rig is complete with a 1915 dated holster that is maker marked and unit marked to a 92nd Infantry regiment.
Fewer than 2000 were made as Officer private purchase guns, compared to hundreds of thousands of its military proofed counterparts.
A superb example of an "as issued " private purchase sidearm from 1910-1911.
