Description:
1895 RIFLE IN RARE .303 BRITISH CALIBER, #56XXX, MADE 1906. Most of the Model 1895s in this caliber went to Canada where the .303 was the standard military caliber and many sportsmen were shooting the famed British Enfields in that caliber. As there are no British proof marks on it, it is doubtful that this rifle was shipped overseas. I believe the number of 1895s in this caliber was very limited and they are rarely seen now. This example is equiped with the desirable Lyman 21 “Climbin’ Lyman” receiver sight with the fold down fine aperture intact. The receiver has good blue around the sight and toward the rear of the right side along with the more protected areas and m This one does not have British proof marks, so it most likely was not shipped overseas.agazine sides. The28"  barrel is fitted with a filler blank in the rear dovetail and has a blade front sight. Overall the barrel is mostly gray with some very aged blue in the most protected areas. Excellent markings and screw heads. Fine stock and forend showing normal handling only with tight wood to metal fit. The forend schnable tip retains the factory ebony wedge inlay. Tight action, strong safety half-cock and surprisingly excellent bore as early .303 ammo was typically very corrosive. Someone certainly used this rifle, but took care to clean the bore! Unusual 119 year old M-1895 with a great sight.
