Interesting Winchester Model 1894 saddle ring carbine in caliber 32 Winchester Special. The records on hand at the Cody Museum (see last picture of sheet, which will be provided to the buyer) verify caliber and list this carbine as 1/2 magazine with "shotgun butt fitted" which is the current configuration - 20" round barrel with pinned front sight, 1/2 magazine, plain walnut stocks, butt stock having a shotgun butt with smooth steel butt plate, plain trigger, blued and case hardened finish. Cody info does not mention the 3-leaf express rear sight, which also would have been a special-order option.
CONDITION: Barrel retains 15% original blue with 50% in the protected areas around the sights and above the fore arm. The visible portion of the mag tube shows 75% fine aged blue. The receiver shows 10% blue at the forward section, worn from carry, and 60% strong blue at the back half by the saddle ring. The stocks are sound with no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, just normal light marks from use and a very small chip missing left rear of the fore arm in front of the receiver. Hammer and lever show smoky traces of the original case colors. Action is crisp and tight with a properly working half cock safety. All 3 leaves of the rear sight are intact. The bore is shiny with sharp rifling with just a hint of roughness/frost in the midsection, rated at an 8.5 of 10. Original saddle ring and stud are intact. Overall grades NRA Very Good and will make a fine addition to any Winchester collection.
