Description:
Guns Listing ID: 554698

The story begins in the 1930s when the German military began looking for a replacement for the elegant but expensive-to-produce Luger P08 pistol. Carl Walther GmbH designed a new pistol that was accepted by the German military in 1938 and designated as the \"Pistole 38\" or \"P38.\"
The P38 was groundbreaking for its time, as it was one of the first locked-breech pistols to feature a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger with a decocker. This allowed a soldier to safely carry the pistol with a round in the chamber, and the first shot could be fired with a simple trigger pull, while subsequent shots would be single-action. It also featured a loaded chamber indicator and a simple field-stripping process, making it a reliable and practical military sidearm.
The \"ac43\" Code: Decoding a Wartime Relic
During World War II, the German military implemented a system of letter codes to conceal the identities of the various manufacturers of their firearms.
\"ac\" was the code assigned to the Carl Walther GmbH factory in Zella-Mehlis.
\"43\" indicated the year of manufacture, 1943.
Therefore, an \"ac43\" stamped on a P38 slide means it was a pistol produced by the original designer, Walther, in 1943. By this point in the war, production of the P38 was in full swing, with other factories like Mauser and Spreewerk also producing the pistol under their own codes (\"byf\" and \"cyq,\" respectively)
The P38 was a durable and reliable pistol, and the \"ac43\" models are a testament to this, having been produced and used extensively throughout the middle years of the war. Many of these pistols were brought back to the United States as war trophies by returning GIs, and they are highly collectible today.
The Walther P38 \"ac43\" is more than just a pistol; it‚s a piece of history that tells the story of its manufacturer, its year of production, and the context of the war in which it was used.
This firearm is NOT numbers matching but does have symbols of the era ie waffenamts, and a prominant Nazi eagle.
