Payment Types Accepted: Description: The French Lebel Model 1886 rifle, also known as the Fusil Modèle 1886 or Fusil Mle 1886 M93 after a 1893 bolt modification, was the first military firearm to be issued with smokeless powder ammunition. It entered service with the French Army in 1887 and was a bolt-action infantry rifle designed to use the revolutionary "Poudre B" smokeless powder, invented by French chemist Paul Vieille in 1884. This new propellant was three times as powerful as black powder for the same weight and left virtually no combustion residue. The rifle was chambered for the 8×50mmR Lebel cartridge, which featured a flat-nosed full metal jacket bullet ("Balle M") designed by Lieutenant Colonel Nicolas Lebel. The rifle's design incorporated an oversized bolt with front locking lugs and a massive receiver to withstand the higher pressures of the new ammunition. This one is a nice piece with 80-90% bluing left. The bore is nice and it has matching, reciever, barrel, bolt, and rear stock. The rear stock has what looks like an arsenal repair. The stock is tight with no play. I ran two 8mm lebel snap caps through the rifle and It functions like it should. Barrel is marked M1936. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Rifle Caliber: 8mm Lebel |
