Offered for sale this week is a very hard to find variation of the prewar Colt Government Model. This pistol shipped to Dallas Texas in 1940. It is equipped with the Swartz firing pin safety. This feature was short lived and was only used from approximately 1938-1941. Swartz equipped standard Government Models are very SCARCE! You may find a National Match or one of the exported pistols with it, but finding a US shipped standard gun is quite a challenge. I have only seen a handful of them. They are scarce for a number of reasons. Number one is the fact that the US Military took possession of 6500 finished pistols in this serial range and converted them to US M1911A1's for the war effort. Great Britain also cleared the shelves at Colts in 1940 and bought 100's of pistols including Gov Models.
This pistol is original finish. All parts are correct to include the Colt 45 Auto marked barrel and the full blued pinned base magazine.
Trust me on this one.....a non export standard Gov Model with the Swartz Safety in the C200,000 serial range is a rare bird and you will not likely find another one anytime soon!
