Description:
This outstanding quality and elegant Italian hammer gun has 28" chopper lump barrels fitted with slightly raised matted concave rib. Tops of barrels are engraved with gauge, chamber, and length on right, and "New England Arms Co" on left. Barrel flats are stamped with 1974 Italian nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers and with Lucchini logo. Coin finished top lever self-cocking sidelock hammer action features non-automatic safety, vented strikers, and double triggers. Fences are traditionally filed, and action is engraved with 80% coverage well cut small scroll. Bottom of action is engraved "CUSTOM - GUNMAKER" "S. LUCCHINI". Sandro Lucchini is a well known best quality arms manufacturer who produces an extremely limited quantity of double guns annually. A flush gold inlaid woodcock is on trigger guard bow. Engravers signature, "Tanteglini S", is on trigger plate. Strikingly marbled and somewhat burl figured flesh toned European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15 - 1/8" over fully checkered wood butt. Closely spaced point pattern checkering is on semi-diamond hand. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. CONDITION: Excellent with evidence of careful field use. Barrels retain 90-95% original blue, thinning from normal hand wear on sides, high edges silvered, and with a few light marks. Action retains nearly all of its well maintained bright coin finish.Great Vintagers Gun by one of the finest makers.
