Description:
S&W Model 3 Russian 44 cal. The butt is marked serial number 31542, which puts this as a 2nd Model, manufactured between 1872 and 1874. It has a rounded grip, an extreme back strap knuckle, and a trigger guard spur, also indicating it is a 2nd Model. The barrel is 7" long. The body of the revolver is nickel plated.

The plating is nearly intact, except for a small area above the cylinder, top of the rear sight, and at the end of the barrel. Also at the end of the barrel, on one side, the plating is loose in an area about 1.5" long x 1/4" wide. The grip is walnut, and is in very good condition. "SH" (Schuyler Hartley) in a diamond is stamped on the butt of the grip. The original leather holster is included. The action and breach break operate smoothly and tight.

I have included a pic of the local gunsmith report which says the revolver is safe to fire using light loads. One side of the barrel has my father's driver license number lightly engraved for "Operation I.D." theft deterrence.

This cylinder advances one chamber each hammer cycle, so the timing is correct. But, the cylinder bolt is sticky and doesn't engage right away. The cylinder bolt stickiness shows up again when checking lockup. In lockup, the cylinder bolt is slow to engage. Once the cylinder bolt is engaged, the cylinder play is minimal, but it does rotate back/forth slightly. Stickiness is what sent this revolver to the gunsmith in 2009. It has sat unused for most of the last 20 years, so looks like it could use a good internal cleaning and relube. The bore is shiny, not cloudy.

Buyer will pay for shipping at actual cost, including FFL fee.
