Description:
"This is a World War II-era Japanese officer’s sword (shin-gunto), signed Munetsugu (??? – Munetsugu made this) with gold-inlaid mei, and dated Showa 19 (1944) on the reverse.  The blade measures 24.5 inches in length and is forged in the shinogi-zukuri style with a bright polish, visible grain (hada), and a tempered edge line (hamon). The presence of the gold-inlaid signature indicates a higher-grade, special-order blade rather than a standard arsenal piece.  Mounted in complete Imperial Japanese Army officer fittings, including a regulation brown-lacquered steel saya, gilt-brass tsuba with sakura motif, and a well-preserved tsuka with brown silk wrap over ray skin and floral menuki.  Condition: Very good overall, with light handling marks on the blade and honest wear to the mounts. A desirable signed and dated gendaito from the final year of WWII, with the added distinction of an inlaid signature.
