Description:
Antique SWISS SCHMIDT-RUBIN M1889 Straight Pull 7.5x53mm Rifle with BAYONET

12 Round Capacity with DETACHABLE BOX MAGAZINE

Here we present an antique Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model 1889 Straight Pull Bolt Action Military Rifle, made circa the early 1890s in Bern, Switzerland. To accelerate the sluggish production of the Vetterli rifles, the federal authorities built a new arms factory in Bern, the Eidgenössische Waffenfabrik (W+F), in 1875. That factory produced the 1878 and 1881 variant of the Vetterli rifle prior to producing this Schmidt-Rubin rifle. This rifle was officially adopted on June 26, 1889, with production ceasing on April 29, 1897, after 211,890 rifles had been delivered.

The Model 1889 was the first in Switzerland's Schmidt–Rubin series, serving from 1889 to 1953. Designed by Colonel Rudolf Schmidt (action) and Colonel Eduard Rubin (ammunition), production began in 1891. Its straight-pull bolt allows quick cycling—pull back to unlock, cock, extract, and eject in one motion; push forward to chamber and lock—faster than traditional bolt actions. The rifle features a musket-length, free-floating barrel, a 12-round magazine, and a wood stock extending nearly to the barrel tip. It was innovative for its time, notably among the first to use copper-jacketed ammunition.

The overall condition is very good. Original finish with some handling marks and scattered spotting. The stock is in very good condition, Solid overall showing average scratches and dings, along with a small repair. The cocking knob is missing a piece and is cracked. Mostly bright bore with strong rifling. Numbers match. Legible markings. Strong action.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 30-1/2 inches.
