"Serial No. 1140241, manufactured circa late 1942 to early 1943, .30 Carbine, with 18" round barrel marked “W" and bearing the Winchester proof. This early Winchester-produced M1 Carbine features a flat bolt, consistent with early wartime production, and retains its original push-button safety. A Type III rear sight has been added, marked “I.R.C.O/7160060", a common field or arsenal upgrade later in the war. The magazine release is marked “W", and the sling well is stamped “IO", further confirming Winchester production. The low wood stock exhibits expected handling and usage wear, appropriate for a rifle that likely saw WWII service. The action is smooth and functions correctly. This carbine is a solid representation of an early production Winchester M1 Carbine that retains several of its original WWII-era features while showing signs of period upgrades. A desirable piece for collectors of U.S. military firearms.
