Description:
26 inch full round barrel chambered in 50-95 caliber with a bright shiny bore that has some very light scattered roughness. Rifle features a raised matte rib that is seldom seen on Winchesters. Sights include a see through style front with a rare Spirit Level mounted ahead of the rear folding ladder/buck horn sight. Barrel retains about 50% blue in the protected areas and on the bottom with the balance toning to gray. Receiver has traces of the case colors in the protected areas with the balance turning a smooth gray. The engraved hammer and lever are mostly gray as well. Half length magazine forend cap is engraved. Loading gate shows some fire blue. Dust cover has the proper Winchester Express markings. Crisp functioning action. The checkered fancy grade walnut forearm and checkered pistol grip with ebony insert buttstock are in good condition with most original varnish and just minor dings. Hard rubber shotgun buttplate. There is a small "D.O.K." on each side of the buttstock as well as on the barrel matting ahead of the receiver. There were 873 of the 26 inch round barrels in 50-95 caliber and only 54 with Matted barrels. Only 672 rifles had Casehardened finish and only 4 letter with $1.50 Engraving. Somebody knew what they wanted when they ordered this Winchester back in 1882. This is a very fine example of a scarce special order deluxe Model 1876 rifle is sure to fill a hole in a Winchester collection. Complete with factory letter.
