Description: The Browning Auto-5 is one of the most significant shotgun designs of all time, being the first commercially-successful and reliable semi-automatic shotguns ever produced. The Auto-5 was designed in 1902 by the esteemed John Moses Browning and lasted a production lifespan until 1999—nearly a whole century of production! The Auto-5 utilizes a gas-operated system which drives the whole barrel assembly backwards into the receiver to eject the spent shell, then as the barrel drives forward by a spring shrouded by the forend, the bolt is delayed to allow the next shell to be fed by the lifting gate before closing and completing the cycle. This Auto-5 shotgun is a 1972 Belgian-made Magnum model with 28" barrel. The Auto-5 Magnum is able to chamber up to 3"-length shells with more hotter loads and higher load capacity. The barrel is topped with a vented raised rib with texturing and single silver bead. The receiver's top surface is also grooved to combat glare. The barrel has a fixed full choke. The receiver of the Auto-5 does have a magazine cutoff lever on the left side and the receiver has hand-engravings adorning it throughout. The walnut furniture is gloss-finished and checkered for better grip and he stock does have an original vented rubber buttpad attached. The shotgun is in overall very good condition. The barrel has no rust or pitting and is quite clean for its age. The outside finishes on the receiver and barrel have most of their bluing intact. The barrel's bluing under the forend and between the action spring may have been re-blued at some point, but would be blended very well with the rest, if so. The receiver finish is certainly original to the gun but has the most wear around the ejection port—likely from many shells being shot through this gun. The wood forend and stock do have some handling marks, but no serious damage seems to be present. This Auto-5 Magnum does not include a box or case. 12 Gauge SOLD Chambers: 3 Metal Condition: Good Wood Condition: Good Bore Condition: Very good Barrels: 28 Fore End: Checkered gloss walnut Butt Pad: Vented rubber buttpad Weight: 8 Lbs 11 Oz.
