"This traditional Japanese katana features a blade measuring 26 1/4 inches (66.7 cm), with an elegant curvature and a well-defined chu-kissaki. The blade shows a visible midare-style hamon with activity, and remains in polish. The tang is ubu with a single mekugi-ana, unsigned (mumei). The sword is housed in samurai-era buke-zukuri style mounts, including a brown silk ito wrap over ray skin with floral menuki, and a matching iron/bronze fuchi-kashira set with fine decorative details. The iron tsuba shows deep patina, and the saya retains an old lacquer finish with significant wear from service. This katana has the character and presence of a working samurai’s sword, likely Edo period in origin, preserved today as a fine collectible example.
