History & Collector Appeal:
The Galil was developed in the late 1960s and adopted by the Israel Defense Forces in the early 1970s. Designed on the proven AK system but adapted for NATO’s 5.56 cartridge, the Galil incorporated clever soldier-oriented features. Among the most famous: a bottle opener built into the bipod legs, added after Israeli troops damaged magazines prying open bottles in the field. The bipod also functioned as a wire cutter.
