This example is in very good original condition and comes with a Colt Factory Archive Letter verifying its date of shipment and original configuration. This Military Model features the correct long 6-inch barrel, rear slide serrations, spur hammer, and early pattern grips. The blued finish shows honest wear for a pistol this age. The bore is clean and exhibits solid rifling. Mechanically, the pistol functions properly and reliably. The included Colt Archive Letter confirms it was shipped to Shapleigh Hardware Company, St. Louis, MO on November 28, 1919. This documentation adds undeniable collector value and authenticates its history. The 1902 Military’s construction includes a blued finish and checkered black gutta percha grips, adorned with the classic Colt logo, giving it a period-correct appearance and a firm hold. Like other early Browning designs, it uses a short-recoil, locked-breech action, which was innovative at the time and laid the groundwork for many future military and civilian sidearms. The Military variant also differs from the similar 1902 Sporting model by featuring a slide stop and a lanyard loop at the base of the grip—features intended for service use. While the 1902 Military was never officially adopted by the U.S. Army, it was tested and used in limited capacities, and it played an influential role in the eventual development of the famed Colt M1911. Today, the 1902 Military stands as a collectible and historically significant example of the rapid advancement in handgun design at the dawn of the 20th century. Features:
