Description:
Serial #982, 11 x 43Rmm Brazilian, 23 1/4" barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some minor freckling within the grooves. This is an 1892-dated carbine, that has all matching numbers, and an "EM a L NAGANT / A LIEGE" maker’s mark on the left side of the frame. The barrel has an overall smooth plum-brown patina with gray fading along the high and exposed edges, as well as scattered spots of dark brown freckling throughout. The action has a plum-brown patina mixing with gray, and has some traces of the original finish remaining on the sides of the breechblock on the inside. The walnut forend and buttstock are in good plus condition with numerous handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout under a thick added varnish finish. The action is fully functional and locks firmly. According to records, there is some question as to whether the Brazilian government ordered 2,000 or 5,000 of these carbines, but arsenal records only confirm receipt of 1,800 examples. Regardless, these are extremely handy and rugged carbines, rarely seen in the US, and this example rates very good plus condition overall. Antique;
