Description:
Excellent Early Nickel Finish Walther Model 9 .25 Auto Pistol
Fall Monthly Special….
Offered here for sale and just acquired is this classic pre-WWII .25 auto pistol made by Walther. The Model 9 was manufactured by Carl Walther GmbH beginning in 1921, and continued through to about 1945.  It is chambered in .25 ACP (6.35 mm), fixed sights, 2″ barrel (~5 cm), 6-round detachable magazine, blowback semi-automatic.  This appears to be a Type I of three models made as follows:
    • Type I: earliest production; e.g., early blue or nickel finish, with blue enamel grip medallions, no magazine safety.
  • Early production examples are known with nickel or silver-washed finishes (and in some deluxe versions). According to some references the “serial numbers for the Model 9 started at 410,000” for Type I, and this is likely first year (1921).Serial number 442,570 is early in the production run (starting ~410,000 for first units) → I estimate your pistol was likely produced in 1921-23.
  • The nickel (or nickel-finish) condition suggests possibly a special finish or deluxe variant, which were offered early.
This pistol (SN 442,570) strongly suggests early-production, likely very close to the beginning of the Model 9 run (1921-23).  The pistol retains 99%+ early finish. The blue medallion grips are near perfect. Bore is excellent. Magazine is perfect. There is only a very tiny amount of erosion of the nickel in the grip slats at rear of slide (showing dark in images). Otherwise it would be near 100%.
Truly a special specimen in that it is over 100 years old and in this superb condition.
