Superb Near Mint Winchester 1897 or Model 97 12 Ga. Riot Shotgun made in 1940
You will probably not find this one as nice again. This is a very fine classic vintage 1940 Winchester Model 97 Riot 12 gauge pump shotgun. The Winchester Model 1897 (often just called “Model 97” or “M97”) is a classic pump-action shotgun designed by John Browning. It was produced from 1897 to 1957. It has an external hammer.
This gun was manufactured between WWI and WWII. It was not a military Trench model.
This specimen, serial number 866619, is all original and is in near mint condition. It appears to have never been fired and racked very little is at alll. The stock has just a couple of storage marks, and the metal retains 100% finish. The original buttplate has some scuff marks; otherwise, the rest of the shotgun is pristine. It has the Built-in slam fire capability. For its age, this is a truly fine Winchester Model 97 in 99%+ condition.
Model 97 Military Trench Guns:
WW I Trench Guns were manufactured in the E 669000 – E 705300
All had solid frames with the barrels connected and US Military markings and other military modifications.
WW II Trench Guns were manufactured in the E 919600 – E 960000 serial range.
All had a take-down frame and US Military markings, and other military modifications.
All Winchester 1897s made before, between, or after the serial number ranges were commercial Riot Guns.
