This pre-Mod.2 XD-S 4.0 in .45 ACP stands out for its slim 0.9 in. profile, forged steel slide, and hammer-forged, Melonite-treated barrel. It features a red fiber-optic front sight, steel 2-dot rear sight, and rear-only slide serrations. Built on a black polymer frame with aggressive pyramidal texturing and interchangeable backstraps, this striker-fired pistol includes Springfield Armory markings and is made in Croatia.

The XD-S 4.0 configuration pairs a forged steel slide with a hammer-forged, Melonite-treated barrel for durability and corrosion resistance. The 4.0 in. barrel variant offers the longer slide profile of the 4.0 series while maintaining the XD-S’s slim footprint. Firearm does not come with a pistol case but does come with one (1) 7 round magazine.
Ergonomics are driven by the 0.9 in. width, aggressive pyramidal grip texturing, and interchangeable backstraps to fine-tune the grip. A single-slot accessory rail provides mounting for compatible accessories. Included is a easy on/off light source.
Sight alignment is fast and clear with the red fiber-optic front and a steel 2-dot rear.
The slide features rear serrations for positive manipulation.
The striker-fired system incorporates multiple passive safeties, including a grip safety, trigger safety, and striker block. Capacity is 7+1 with the included extended magazine and sleeve.
