Marlin Model 444SS .444 Marlin Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked "THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CONN., U.S.A. / MOD. 444SS MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL. 444 MARLIN". The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked with a "JM" proof. The upper tang is marked with the serial number. The right side of the barrel is marked with Marlin's two-line warning. The Model 444 was released in 1965 and is just like a 336 with strength upgrades to handle the potent round. The 444SS was available from 1984 - 1988. Marlin changed the designation to 444SS when they added the Cross Bolt safety. This example has an unmarked scope mounted to it. The barrel shows numerous rust spots. A classic Marlin lever action in a caliber you don't see much of. .444 Marlin
