Offered here is a genuine Winchester Model 42 Trap Grade chambered in .410 bore with a 26 inch barrel.
The Model 42 remains one of the most desirable American small bore shotguns ever produced, and true Trap Grade examples are among the scarcest and most sought after variants of the model.
This shotgun is built on a factory Trap Grade receiver, properly marked “TRAP” on the underside. The Trap Grade configuration was Winchester’s competition oriented version of the Model 42, designed for serious clay target shooters who wanted the handling of the Model 12 in a refined .410 platform. These guns were produced in far smaller numbers than standard field grades and continue to command strong collector and shooter interest.
This example has been refinished in the past and now presents very well as a high quality shooter. The metal finish is clean and even, and the walnut stock shows attractive figure with a smooth, well executed refinish. While not in original factory finish, the overall appearance is sharp and highly presentable.
The barrel is fitted with an aftermarket ventilated rib featuring a donut style post front sight and mid bead. This rib configuration is not factory original to the gun, but it offers an excellent sighting plane for trap or sporting use and gives the shotgun a distinctive, purposeful competition look. The rib work is well done and complements the Trap Grade configuration from a functional standpoint.
Mechanically, the shotgun is in excellent condition. The action is tight, the pump operates smoothly, and the trigger breaks cleanly. The bore is bright and in excellent condition. This gun is ready for the range or field and would make a standout addition to any collection focused on classic American competition shotguns.
Because of the refinish and non-factory rib, this Model 42 is best described as a genuine Trap Grade Winchester with tasteful updates, ideal for the shooter or collector who values configuration and performance over strict originality.
