Description:
The Colt M1877 was a double-action revolver manufactured by Colt's Patent Fire Arms from January 1877 until 1909 for a total of 166,849 revolvers. The Model 1877 was offered in three calibers, which lent them three unofficial names: the "Thunderer", the "Lightning", and the "Rainmaker". The principal difference between the models was the cartridge for which they were chambered: for the "Thunderer", .41 Long Colt; for the "Lightning", .38 Long Colt; and for the "Rainmaker", .32 Long Colt. All of the models had a six-round capacity.[1][2]
This Pistol is chambered in .38 Long Colt. Therefore is known as a "Lightening."
This pistol has about 40-50% original finish, and the over all condiion of metal surfaces show very few scratches or unusual wear. The bore is in very good condition with no pitting and the rifleing is clean and sharp. The clinder shows no index ring, suggesting the gun has not been fired very much, and the blueing is about 90% reamaining. The action is very tight with very little play in the cylinder lockup in single and double action. One interesting feature is the circular notch cut on the top of the front sight.
