Description:
The Remington Model 1897 Military Rolling Block is a single-shot rifle chambered in 7 mm Mauser. It features a 30-inch barrel and a rolling block action typical of Remington’s late 19th-century military production. The rifle retains its original configuration with two barrel bands, an adjustable rear sight, and a straight-grip wooden stock paired with a matching forearm and handguard. Metal components show an aged brown patina consistent with long-term oxidation of blued steel.
The wood furniture displays smooth surfaces and the original metal buttplate remains fitted. The cleaning rod is present beneath the barrel. The bore is described as dark from age but retains visible rifling. The rifle has no serial number, which aligns with production practices for many antique military contract arms of this era. This firearm is used and exhibits wear typical of its age, with finish loss and patina throughout the metal surfaces.
Included with the rifle are the fixed barrel bands, adjustable rear sight assembly, and cleaning rod. No additional accessories or packaging are noted. The overall configuration reflects the standard military pattern for Remington’s 1897 rolling block rifles chambered in 7 mm, combining a long barrel, solid single-shot action, and full-length wood furniture suitable for service use in its period of manufacture.
