Colt 2nd Generation Percussion Pistols — Cased Engraved Pair | New in Box
Offered here is a 100% pristine, new-in-box cased set of Colt 2nd Generation Percussion pistols in exceptional, unfired condition. Factory letters confirm this pair shipped from Colt to Houston, Texas in July 1981.
Both pistols feature "B" coverage engraving by Alvin A. White — widely regarded as the Dean of American Engraving and one of the most celebrated Colt engravers in history. White engraved presentation Colts for every sitting U.S. President from John F. Kennedy through Ronald Reagan before his passing in 2006. The engraving is executed in the classic American floral scroll tradition, drawing inspiration from the legendary work of Gustave Young and L.D. Nimschke. 24kt gold inlay accents the work throughout.
The finish on both pistols is outstanding. The color case hardening is exceptionally vivid and the bluing remains deep and even. Notably — and uncommonly — neither cylinder shows a turn line, a flaw present on the vast majority of examples. These are genuinely perfect. The pistols are housed in their original Colt Custom Shop walnut presentation case.
Engraved Colt sets of this caliber are rarely encountered on the open market and command a significant premium over factory or modern machine-engraved examples.
This is a serious collector piece — the kind that appreciates with time and is far more enjoyable to own than a bar of gold.
