33074- NORTH CAROLINA NC PERCUSSION HALF-STOCK RIFLE SIGNED M.A. BAKER, FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. CIRCA 1857-63. 58” o/a with 42” octagon .47 caliber rifled barrel with the original brass blade front and semi-buckhorn rear sights and maker signed in script “M.A. BAKER, FAYETTEVILLE N.C.”. Rarely seen maker of rifles, shotguns and pistols before the Civil War and also a contractor to the Confederacy and the state of North Carolina converting flintlock military firearms to percussion during the war. All original and complete in good condition. Walnut stock with brass trigger guard, ramrod pipes, butt plate and side plate. Pewter forend cap and coin silver oval wedge escutcheons. Double set triggers. Original wood ramrod. Double triggers in working order. Original old metal patina with moderate pitting on barrel and lock. Wood with the original finish. Rare North Carolina rifle with excellent collection provenance. $2400.
