Precursor to the Iconic Model 1100 Autoloader
Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Engraved Remington “Sportsman-58” Model Semi-Automatic Shotgun, manufactured during its production run between 1956 and 1963 in Ilion, New York. The Remington Model 58, also known as the “Sportsman-58” is an autoloader manufactured by Remington Arms in the mid-20th century. It was Remington's first gas operated shotgun and was marketed alongside the recoil operated Model 11-48. The Model 58 was manufactured in 12, 16, and 20 gauge until it was replaced by the Model 1100 in 1963.
The Model 1100 holds the record for the most shells fired out of a semi-automatic shotgun without malfunction or cleaning, set in 1978 with a record of over 24,000 rounds fired. This may explain why it has remained popular among bird hunters, skeet shooters, and trap Shooters since its introduction in 1963 through today.
The overall condition is very good. Original finish is preserved. Excellent action. Bright smooth bore. This example sports a sold stock with nice wrist checkering only showing average handling wear. Markings are sharp. The rubber “slip-on” recoil pad is in good shape.
