Description:
The J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. single-shot rifle is chambered in .22 caliber and built on a top-break action. It features a 26-inch heavy bull barrel with fixed sights and a smooth straight-grip wooden stock. The metal surfaces show an aged brown patina consistent with its antique status. A smooth crescent-shaped metal butt plate is fitted to the rear of the stock, and the rifle bears serial number 29235 on both the frame and barrel.
This rifle is used and exhibits several age-related characteristics. The wooden stock has three visible cracks (see the last 3 pics), though the components remain firmly fitted. The bore condition is described as fair to good, with some shine and defined rifling still visible. The action shows partial mechanical wear—specifically, the hammer does not consistently hold at full cock. These details reflect the firearm’s operational and cosmetic state as observed.
No additional accessories or packaging are included beyond the rifle itself. The piece retains its original configuration, including barrel, sights, and butt plate, representative of Stevens’ early single-shot design. Overall, this antique firearm presents as a complete example of a J. Stevens A&T Co. top-break .22 rifle with its original heavy barrel and matching serial numbers.
