Description:
The design used the standard M1910 canteen water bottle, and paired it with a different style carrier. Instead of having belt clips on the back, the carrier has a leather strap that goes around the outside of the canteen, with a steel spring clip on top. 5 canvas retaining loops hold the strap to the canteen, and it would be attached to whatever part of the horse's tack that the soldier desired. This 1910 canteen is in very good condition, and looks to have seen moderate use during its service life. The canteen is fully non magnetic, made totally of aluminum, brass chain for the top marked "ERDY". This is a late example with manufactures mark "L.F. & C." 1918, with unit marks on the cap, " 101 BN.S.C.N.Y.A 56". The carrier is in very good condition and is maker marked "LONG 03-18" on the underside of the right side flap and "R.H. LONG" on the left. The interior felt lining is retained very well, with no insect damage. The snaps still have a blacked brass finish, and the outer shell shows light wear and age soiling. The leather strap is also in very good condition, light cracking with light verdigris on hardware. The cup was produced by L.F. & C. and dated "1918" with "A.L." on the bottom.;
