Approximately 9,005 Model 1795 muskets were produced by Harpers Ferry during this year. The Model 1795 was a smoothbore flintlock based musket and the first weapon system to be produced within the United States. It was designed very closely patterning the French “Charleville” Flintlock Musket that was used to by the colonists against the British during the American Revolutionary War. Muskets made at Harpers Ferry proceeded along with their own evolutional development and were different from those longarms made at the Springfield Armory. Springfield Armory produced 80,000 of these, with Harpers Ferry responsible for another 70,000. Production of this musket ran from 1795 through 1818. It wasn’t until the Model 1816 that Springfield and Harpers Ferry made muskets that had interchangeable parts. The Model 1795 found her way into several important American conflicts of the time, including the War of 1812 between the United States and the British Empire, the Mexican-American War, and even into the Civil War. The 1795 would also be taken along by members of the American expedition led by Lewis and Clark from 1803 to 1806. Use of the Model 1795 was recorded as late as 1865 for the southern Confederate forces who were still fielding her late in the Civil War. “HARPERS/FERRY/1813” marked vertically at the tail of the lock with the Federal eagle at the center, sunken oval proofs at the upper left breech of the barrel, and a very intriguing 7th Regiment marking on the bottom of the stock with an additional identifier that appears to be a monogram of “JVC” or some combination of those letters. This is a very early domestically produced military musket for the new Republic as well as the Harpers Ferry Armory. The overall condition is very good. Smooth and even original brown patina. The hammer only strikes to half cock when the trigger is pulled. The stock is solid with honest use. Period replacement middle barrel band. Faint inspection markings on the rear of the stock flat and behind the trigger tang. The smoothbore is dim and smooth. A very scarce Harpers Ferry Musket! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 45-1/4 inches. Caliber: .69 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
