Description: This is a custom pre-war Griffin & Howe built on a 1918 Springfield Model 1903 frame and chambered in .30-06 Springfield. Griffin & Howe started the company in 1923 to produce custom sporting rifles based on Springfield actions.The top of the barrel rib is marked "N0 121 Griffin & Howe, Inc. New York" and behind the rear sight is marked ".30-06 Gov.". This has a 24" tapered octagon-to-round barrel of Krupp fluid steel with full length matted rib and four folding express sights marked "200, 300, 400, 500". The front sight is a beaded blade on finely pebbled ramp base. The stock is one piece checkered walnut with a satin finish and a rose wood forend cap. The stock has a raised double-beaded cheekpiece with a scroll engraved steel pistol grip cap secured with an engraved screw. There are sling swivel studs mounted on the belly and on the forend. The butt plate is a hand-checkered steel trapdoor buttplate. This is rifle displays its use from the years, but still remains a very nice piece of their history. .30-06 Springfield SOLD Chambers: Bolt action. Metal Condition: This finish on this rifle displays various stages of finish loss due to wear and age. The finish rates about 70-75% remaining. No deep scratches or gouges. Wood Condition: The stock shows light dings and scratches along the surface with a compression mark on the left side behind the rear cheekpiece. A small dent after the edge of the checkering on the left side pistol grip. The stock rates about 80% or better remaining. Bore Condition: The bore is bright with very strong rifling.
