Offered here for sale and just acquired from a prestigious arms collection of UNFIRED Colt reproduction revolvers is this SUPERB Colt 2nd generation black powder series reproduction 1851 .36 caliber percussion Squareback Navy revolver.
The Colt 2nd Generation "C" Series black powder revolvers were manufactured by Colt starting in the early 1970s just after the height of the Civil War Centennial in 1965. They were high-quality, authentic reproductions of their original percussion models, including this one of the most elusive for collectors to obtain- the 1851 Navy revolver became the mainstay of the Colt line- the successor to the Colt dragoon series but in .36 caliber. They were actively issued to Army and navy and many commercial sales. They were actively used by reenactors but became authentic collectibles as they continued the serial numbers as the 1st generations originals ended.
Production: The 2nd Generation production ran in several stages, initially with components partially produced in Italy by Aldo Uberti and finished in Colt's Hartford, CT facilities. They did not carry any import marks as later Uberti Italian models and our considered by collectors as TRUE Colt collectible specimens not late non Colt contracted import revolvers.
These revolvers were made to be largely identical in specifications to the original first-generation guns, with features like case-hardened frames, hammers, and loading levers, and blued barrels and cylinders.
Due to their authentic construction and genuine Colt manufacturing markings, these 2nd Generation models are collectible in their own right, distinct from modern Italian-made replicas.
The original owner selected this specimen to use (but very sparingly) and decided to customize it in a beautiful presentation wooden casing. It shows only slight use with just some varnish wearing on the grips. The remainder of the finish on metal is about 100%. Matching serial numbers low 5523 it comes with a reproduction Navy flask, mold, can of percussion caps. Excellent collectible TRUE Colt BP series.
