This is a Union Switch & Signal (US&S) M1911A1 pistol, a highly regarded and relatively scarce World War II-era U.S. military variant manufactured in 1943. US&S produced only approximately 55,000 of these pistols, making them one of the less common contractors among the major WWII 1911A1 producers.
The pistol was acquired through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) in its current as-issued configuration. It includes the original CMP hang tag, all accompanying items as shown in the photographs (including the CMP-branded case), and a standard U.S. Government-issue (USGI) 7-round magazine.
The firearm exhibits a largely matching Union Switch & Signal configuration across major components, with the possible exception of the hammer, which may require further verification for full confirmation. It retains its original factory Du-Lite finish—a distinctive bluish-gray matte treatment characteristic of US&S production—without any visible arsenal rebuild marks (e.g., RIA, SA, or flaming bomb stamps indicative of post-war refurbishment).
The barrel is correctly marked \"HS\" (High Standard), consistent with period US&S production, and displays excellent rifling with well-defined lands and grooves, reflecting strong overall bore condition and minimal wear.
