Description:
Kentucky rifle signed by David Cooley. Cooley was a master engraver and relief wood carver. The rifle is 66 inches long. Barrel is octagon to round, smooth bore. Barrel is 49.5 inches long and is original length. The bore is about 54 cal.His rifles are similar in style to Abraham Schweitzer. The stock is good curly maple. A minor loss of wood under the lock has been replaced. The patchbox is beautifully engraved, as is the side plate and the toe plate. The lock might be be a reconversion. Engraved and high relief cheek piece, signed by D. Cooley make this a fine rifle.
