Description:
Remington Rolling Block w Double-Set Triggers Custom Schuetzen Rifle

Period-modified Remington Rolling Block schuetzen rifle; Serial No.: n/a; Caliber: .32-40 Ballard; 30-3/4" octagonal Winchester barrel

This is an incredible period rifle with many special features. Please read the following and ask questions …

The rifle has an original Winchester 30-3/4" octagonal No.3-weight barrel. The barrel's top flat is stamped " MADE TO ORDER BY THE | WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. | NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.". It is also partially marked with its caliber: "32-" in front of the receiver ring. The barrel has been drilled and tapped for scope blocks, and unfortunately, the front scope block is on top of the barrel stamp.

The bore is fair to good. I have only pushed Hoppe's-soaked patches down the bore. I am still getting light gray patches. It's difficult to get a clear photo, and I do not have a borescope.

The rifle has a Winchester windgauge front sight with a replacement adjustment screw. The rear barrel sight dovetail is fitted with a blank. It also has a Lyman No. 2A Combination Tang Sight. The staff does not index or lock.

The rifle has a round-top rolling block action. There are no patent dates marked on the side of the receiver. The action is fitted with custom double-set triggers that the previous owner believed to be by Carlos Gove. The triggers set and function as designed. The trigger guard (lower tang) is also custom with an added finger lever, and is shaped as a pistol grip curve that ends at the grip cap.

The stocks are European walnut and show dark mineral lines. The forearm and buttstock have panels where they meet the receiver. Both are finely checkered. The forearm has a hard rubber forend tip, and the buttstock has a hard rubber grip cap. The buttstock ends with a Winchester Helm pattern buttplate. The buttstock has very small chips and splinters missing on both sides where it meets the upper and lower tangs; it is barely noticeable. The forearm has a brass base inlet for the palm rest

A lot of professional gunmaking time and effort went into this rifle. It was enhanced mechanically with its double-set triggers, and aesthetically with the European walnut and fine checkering.
