The Mauser Model 03 in legendary .404 Jeffery is a modern dangerous-game rifle built on one of the most advanced sporting actions of the 21st century. Manufactured in 2011 (SN MR000924), this rifle features a 25" barrel, 3+1 capacity with detachable 3-round magazine, and weighs a purposeful 9 lb 12.5 oz—ideal mass for managing the authoritative recoil of the .404 Jeffery. The M03 system, introduced by Mauser in 2003, is renowned for its modular design with interchangeable barrels and bolt heads, while retaining classic Mauser reliability. This example is equipped with 30mm Mauser quick-detachable scope rings, allowing rapid optic removal while retaining the excellent standing island express rear sight and banded front sight for backup iron-sight use. The trigger is crisp and can be pushed forward into a refined set (hair) trigger, and the safety system both locks and decocks the rifle for secure handling in the field.
Condition is excellent, showing only very faint handling wear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, the action operates smoothly, and it is mechanically outstanding. Metal surfaces retain virtually all original finish. The rifle is stocked in beautifully figured walnut with a right-hand cheekpiece, palm swell, ebony forend tip, and ebony grip cap, all accented by sharp checkering. Sling provisions include a barrel-banded front swivel and a belly-mounted rear swivel—hallmarks of a properly configured safari rifle. Chambered in the time-honored .404 Jeffery, one of Africa’s most respected dangerous-game cartridges, this Model 03 represents the ideal fusion of classic safari heritage and modern German engineering—ready for buffalo, lion, or any game that walks.
