Previously owned by noted six-gun authority John Taffin, this Thompson/Center Encore chambered in .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum is a single-shot break-action pistol featuring an 11.5-inch ported barrel and weighing 3.25 pounds. Mounted to the pistol is a Bushnell Elite 3200 Firefly 2–6x handgun scope. The firearm remains in excellent condition. Of particular significance, the barrel was custom made for John Taffin by J.D. Jones of SSK Industries and is inscribed, "Custom crafted for my friend John Taffin by JD Jones." J.D. Jones, founder of SSK Industries, was one of the most influential wildcat cartridge designers and custom barrel makers in modern handgun hunting history, known for developing the JDJ and Whisper cartridge families and for building high-performance barrels for the Thompson/Center platform. In his Guns Magazine article "Monster Maximum Magnum," John Taffin wrote about contacting J.D. Jones regarding a test .500 Encore, at which time Jones offered to send his original prototype. The configuration of this pistol — including the custom barrel and optic setup — is consistent with the example discussed and photographed in that article ( ://gunsmagazine/guns/monster-maximum-magnum/ ). This firearm comes with a Certificate of Authenticity verifying its ownership by John Taffin. Firearms with direct provenance to John Taffin and custom work by J.D.
