Previously owned by noted six-gun authority John Taffin, this Smith & Wesson New Model 3 Target chambered in .44 Russian features a 6.5-inch barrel, weighs 2.5 pounds, and has a capacity of 6. The firearm remains in very good condition and has been reblued. The New Model 3 Target represents one of Smith & Wesson's classic late-19th-century designs and is closely associated with the development and legacy of the .44 Russian cartridge — a subject Taffin wrote about extensively. Believed to be the very revolver pictured and discussed on pages 59 and 60 of John Taffin's Book of the .44 Caliber. In the accompanying text, Taffin recounts the story of how his wife purchased this revolver for him at a gun show, adding a personal and well-documented layer of provenance to an already historic sixgun. This firearm comes with a Certificate of Authenticity verifying its ownership by John Taffin. Firearms that are both owned by and published in the work of John Taffin represent a rare and highly desirable opportunity for serious collectors of classic American sixguns.
