Description:
***SOLD***
Fantastic Model 70 Super Grade in a very rare caliber, configuration, and condition!
This is a seldom seen transition era gun in the exceedingly scarce 250-3000 Savage caliber. The "250 Savage" represents less than 1/2 of 1% of all pre 64 production, and of course the Super Grade style represents far fewer than that.
S/N 79132 with matching scribed bolt made in 1948. The underbarrel date stamp is 1938. Earlier barrel dates are common on all Model 70s, but particularly so on the rarer calibers, often showing much wider date spreads.
The overall condition of this rifle is superb, showing 98% or better original finishes throughout with just a few scattered and very light handling marks on the wood.
The bore and mechanical functions are all excellent. The insides look like new with a clean barrel channel and pristine metal work.
All of the very unique components of this particular caliber including the mag box, bolt collar, ejector, etc. are present and factory correct.
All of the unique Super Grade components are also present and factory correct including properly stamped floorplate, robust detachable swivels, and the often elusive Redfield front sight!
This special era rifle also features the original pre war profile clover leaf tang and a unique "clam shell" aka "rabbit's foot" safety lever used only during this short production period primarily between 1946-1948.
The wood is beautiful and exhibits that warm, dark honey color that many of us covet.
A truly fine example of one of the most desirable of all Model 70s, and one which would be nearly impossible to improve upon.
Due to absolutely horrendous postal service over the past 2-3 months, I am now forced to use UPS 2-day air. Please figure an additional $150 (far less than my total cost) for fully insured shipping in a brand new foam lined box.
