The Winchester Model 70 Safari Express in .458 Winchester Magnum is a purpose-built dangerous game rifle configured exactly as it should be. Serial number G319564, this example features the controlled-round-feed action with long claw extractor and three-position wing safety, preserving the mechanical reliability that has made the Model 70 a benchmark for African hunting. The 24" barrel is paired with a proper Recknagel island express rear sight and ramped front sight, giving fast, rugged sight acquisition in the field. The action remains factory drilled and tapped with original plug screws intact for those who prefer optics. Weighing 8 lb 11.3 oz with a 13.625" LOP, it balances well for a .458—substantial enough to manage recoil while remaining quick to shoulder.
Condition is very good overall, with wear consistent with responsible use. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, the action cycles smoothly, and the trigger is crisp. Metal surfaces retain nearly all of their original matte finish. Notably, this rifle has been tastefully upgraded in Europe with a refined continental-style stock featuring a slimmer forend profile and rich red oil finish.
