The Ruger M77 RSM (Ruger Safari Magnum) in .458 Lott is widely regarded as one of the finest modern production dangerous-game rifles ever built. Manufactured in 2006 (SN 750-06670), this controlled-round-feed rifle features the massive claw extractor and three-position safety that define a proper safari action. Chambered in the legendary .458 Lott—capable of taking any game on earth—it carries a 23" barrel, 3+1 capacity, and weighs 9 lb 3.9 oz bare and 10 lb 10.4 oz with optic, providing the reassuring mass necessary to manage serious recoil. The rifle is equipped with a quarter rib featuring a standing rear sight and two additional folding leaves, along with a ramped and banded front sight—classic safari configuration done correctly.
Mounted in German-style claw mounts is a premium Swarovski Habicht 1.5–6x42 illuminated first focal plane scope with #4 reticle, allowing instant removal for iron-sight use and reliable return to zero when remounted. The scope functions perfectly, including illumination. Condition is very good overall, showing only faint handling wear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, the action cycles smoothly, and the trigger breaks cleanly. The barrel and action retain nearly all original bluing. The walnut stock remains in excellent condition with sharp multi-point diamond checkering, Ruger grip cap, barrel-banded front swivel, and rear belly swivel; only a single faint mark is noted above the trigger on the left side.
The RSM was produced for only a short period and is increasingly difficult to find—especially in .458 Lott. Often described as Bill Ruger’s ultimate rifle, it combines traditional safari styling with robust American engineering. Heavy, balanced, and built with unmistakable character, this rifle is equally suited for a serious collector or for a hunter preparing for buffalo, elephant, or the full African Big Five. A rare and highly desirable example of Ruger’s flagship safari rifle.
