Description:
At the beginning of his career, Joshua Stevens was a toolmaker and gunsmith. He worked with many of the significant firearms designers of the day, helping to create new designs and technology. Stevens was credited for his contributions to the first revolver designed by Samuel Colt. In 1864, Joshua Stevens decided to start building firearms of his own design. He set up shop in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, as J. Stevens & Co. The primary income source was from the production of tools. By producing tools, Stevens was able to keep the company profitable during his research and development of firearms. Between 1864 and 1870, Stevens released his first gun. It was a tip-up action, single-shot pistol. In 1920, J. Stevens & Co. was purchased by The Savage Arms Company in Utica, New York. None
