Winchester Model 1894 rifle in the desirable caliber 38-55, serial number 254325 indicates 1905 production per the Cody Museum, standard rifle with 26" round barrel, full magazine, steel crescent butt, plain walnut stocks, plain trigger, blued finish and case hardened, open sights.

CONDITION: Mag tube bluing 65%, having turned a fine aged blue/plum mix with a wear area forward of the retaining band that is now more gray than the rest of the finish. Barrel is gray with some strong blue under the rear sight, some dings and pitting on the outside at the muzzle end, markings still sharp and clear. Receiver is bright silver with strong blue on the upper tang from a peep sight once present, now gone. Lever also silver. Hammer shows 20% smoky case colors. Lever must be squeezed hard to engage the hammer block release for firing. Action is crisp, tight and sharp, with a properly working half cock safety. Fore arm shows a very small worn sliver on the left side near the nose cap, with expected nicks and dings from use, otherwise sound with no splits or cracks. Butt stock has a 2" long repaired split near the toe and also exhibits expected nicks and dings; retains the nice reddish Winchester color. Bore is fair with worn and frosted rifling but no rings or craters or bulges, rated at a 5 of 10. Front and rear sights are later replacements. Grades NRA Antique Good overall.
