STEVENS ARMS Co. .22 RF TARGET NO. 35 Tip-Up C&R Sporting Pistol PLINKER Great Single Shot Pistol with Heavy Bull Barrel Here Ancestry Guns presents a J. Stevens Arms Company Target No. 35 Single Shot Pistol, made circa 1916 to 1939 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. The Stevens Model 35 pistol was a gun made for shooting back in the early part of the 1900s and continues to defy its age. This single shot pistol in rimfire calibers (and the rarer .410 shotgun cartridge) were the favorite of sportsmen and target shooters of yesteryear. Chambered in a variety of now obsolete rimfire calibers, and also the .22 long rifle like this model, the Stevens Model 35 is an amazingly strong single shot pistol with a tip down barrel to load model. While actual manufacturing dates are quite murky on these models, many are pushing a century of service as small game getters and target shooters. Some of these Models 35s came with a detachable shoulder stock and termed “bicycle guns” because they were light and handy and perfect for bringing along on your country bicycle trip for small game and plinking. This pistol has a heavy bull barrel, making the balance of this pistol great in the hand. Guns made after 1916 will be marked “J. STEVENS ARMS COMPANY”. Like all other youth guns of the time, this Stevens was designed to be very utilitarian, sturdy, and versatile. Fancy wood, engraved steel, or polished brass were not important to the youngsters who used these guns. What children of those times wanted were good results and long usage. After all, most of these diminutive firearms has to serve several generations of children before they were retired. In the 19th century, firearms occupied a place in every rural home and were sometimes even looked upon as members of the family. The overall condition is fine. Original blue. Excellent action.
