ASTON & CO MIDDLETOWN / 1847 The Model 1842 pistol served as the standard U.S. cavalry pistol during the period leading into the Civil War and saw service with mounted troops, dragoons, and artillery units. These large single shot percussion pistols were built for durability and battlefield reliability and represent an important step in the evolution of American military sidearms. Aston & Co., Middletown, Connecticut • Lock dated 1847 • Approximately .54 caliber smoothbore • Single?shot percussion ignition • Brass trigger guard and butt cap • Walnut stock • Original captive swivel ramrod present Condition shows honest antique wear with natural age patina on the barrel and lock surfaces.
