While developed in 1929, the post Second World War production ban resulted in Walther issuing a manufacturing license for the PP to the French company Manurhin in 1949. US imports of the PP began in 1963 which were French made until 1986, when Walther resumed its own manufacturing. The PP (which stands for Polizei Pistole) is a compact double-action (DA/SA)hammer-fired semi-automatic pistol that has been used by police forces throughout the world. Production of this model firearm likely occurred between 1929 and 1945, with post-war production resuming from 1952 to the 1980s. Stainless steel variants, like this one, were more common in later years, especially from the 1970s onward.
