SPECIAL ORDER 1886 .45-70 WITH RARE EXTRA LONG 30” OCT. BARREL, FULL MAGAZINE, #48XXX, MADE 1890. According to the Winchester Handbook by George Madis, only 478 Model 1886s were made with barrels longer than standard (26” was standard). This one is in the desirable caliber of .45-70 and shows good aged blue on the barrel and magazine with some mixing plum/brown especially on the bottom of the magazine tube. The receiver is a mottled gray/brown with some good blue on the bolt. Overall, uncleaned and unfooled with. Fine screw heads, fine stock and forearm show only light handling with good wood to metal fit. Fitted with the correct sporting ladder rear sight with slide intact and small Winchester blade front sight. Exc. markings, tight action, secure safety half-cock and fine bore that shows strong rifling all the way through with some light, scattered corrosion- would benefit from a good scrubbing. A rare 136 year old ’86 in a desirable caliber and rare barrel length and all with a most attractive appearance.
