Description:
Decided to sell my Rock Island 1903 A1,
Collector significance
Not in its “original” WWI configuration
But historically legit → it’s a real military rebuild (not a parts gun someone cobbled together)
Many collectors actually like these better because:
They represent both WWI + WWII service life
Often have excellent bores from the newer barrel, not shot out. This barrel was made by High Standard is like new and is a tack driver! The barrel is dated 12-44

Copied the following off the web...
Rock Island Arsenal produced M1903 rifles from 1904–1913 and 1917–1919, totaling over 400,000 units. Rock Island 1903 rifles are prized for their history, with earlier models having single heat-treat receivers and later, safer models featuring double heat-treat, usually above serial number 285,507. These .30-06 rifles were often refurbished during WWI and WWII with Parkerized finishes, with some designated as 1903A1 when fitted with Type C pistol grip stocks.
Key details:
  • Heat Treatment & Safety: Rock Island rifles with serial numbers below ~200,000–250,000 are often considered "low-numbered" (single heat treat) and are generally considered collector items not meant for shooting, while higher serial numbers (safe above ~285,507) are considered safe for standard .30-06 ammunition.
  • 1903A1 Designation: The 1903A1 variant specifically refers to the rifle equipped with a Type C full pistol grip stock.
The bore is absolutely mint, shoots well, very accurate! Shipping fully insured from my FFL will run around $80
