Description: (NOTE: IN PROCESS OF ADDING IMAGES AND PRICING) Superb UNFIRED Winchester 1895 Lever Action Carbine Offered here for sale and just acquired is one of the finest specimens of this Winchester model as we have acquired in our more than 5 decades in the business. This is a near-mint, unfired original Winchester Model 1895 carbine chambered in the .30 Army cartridge and is an interesting piece of firearms history. The John Moses Browning-designed Winchester Model 1895 was introduced in 1895 by Winchester Repeating Arms Company. It was the last lever-action rifle Browning designed for Winchester. The design represented a major technological shift as earlier lever guns (like the Model 1873 or 1894) used tubular magazines, which required flat-nosed bullets. The Model 1895 introduced a fixed box magazine under the receiver. This allowed it to fire more powerful smokeless-powder cartridges with pointed bullets, which were becoming the standard for military rifles. This change made the Model 1895 one of the strongest and most modern lever-action rifles of its era. Production ran from 1895 to 1940, with about 426,754 rifles manufactured. The rifle is chambered for “.30 Army” or .30-40 Krag cartridge, the standard U.S. military round of the 1890s. This cartridge was originally developed for the Krag–Jørgensen rifle adopted by the U.S. Army in 1892. Winchester offered the Model 1895 in this caliber specifically to appeal to military and civilian shooters. And it became popular with frontier law enforcement and hunters, including Theodore Roosevelt, who famously used a Model 1895 in .405 Winchester on African safari. Because most surviving examples show wear, high-condition originals are highly sought by collectors and this specimen appears to be UNFIRED. It retains all of its original finish with a MINT BORE and has only two small storage dents in the wood.
