Description:
Offered is an original Civil War-era Union Army oval belt plate featuring the raised “US” device.
This pattern is known as the Model 1851 enlisted man’s waist belt plate and was widely issued to
Federal soldiers throughout the American Civil War.

The plate is constructed of stamped brass with a lead-filled reverse and retains the correct three
arrow-style belt hooks and bench-style attachment bar used to secure the plate to a leather waist belt.
These plates were worn by Union infantry, artillery, and other enlisted soldiers as part of the standard
Federal uniform equipment between 1861 and 1865.

The reverse of the plate shows the typical Civil War construction and hardware associated with
government contract belt plates of the period.

Condition: Good antique condition with natural age patina and honest wear consistent with period use.
The belt hooks remain intact and the plate displays well.

Period: Circa 1861-1865
Material: Brass with lead-filled backing
Origin: United States
Design: Raised “US” device -Union Army enlisted waist belt plate (Model 1851)
